To follow our Women’s Month, today we are delighted to introduce you, Mariajo Pons. Last weeks we could know a bit more Marina and Paloma. Today we present Mariajo Pons!
Mariajo Pons is the goalkeeper of RCD Espanyol. She previously played for CD Sabadell, FC Barcelona, Levante UD, with whom she won one League and one Cup, and Valencia. During her four seasons with RCD Espanyol, she added two further Cup winner’s medals to her collection. She is also a member of the Spanish national team.
Since she was a kid, she played soccer with the boys at school.
“I was really lucky because I had the chance to play with girls since the beginning, but I am aware that so many other girls did not have that opportunity.”
About the future
She is optimistic about the future of women’s soccer:
“People are more interested in it, it is in the media, so it works like a wheel; more visibility, more investment, better quality, higher level!”
About the recent events at San Mamés and last weekend with Atletico de Madrid-FCB, where more than 60.000 people attended to the match, she assured that we are living a revolution, where women’s soccer is giving a huge step up. But she can no forget everybody who has been working so many years for it.
Next 22 of April is a new important date for women’s soccer fans. It will take place at RCDE Stadium the match between RCD Espanyol and Atlético de Madrid, so we hope the attendance is again epic!
To Mariajo, events like youth tournaments and soccer camps, just for women, are amazing options to improve, grow and reach your full potential. Nowadays, is still difficult to find soccer experiences just for girls.
“I would say to every girl who plays soccer don’t limit yourself and take part in every opportunity you can participate.”
If you want to meet fighters like Mariajo Pons, join B1 Girls Camp this summer and play like you never did before. Would you like Mariajo to be one of the players invited to our campus and train with her?
